insatiable music

how's that for some apple advertising? i do indeed love my customized pod. if only i'd bought the 40 gig... alas. how was i to know i had such an insatiable musical appetite??

so dear j-ster has passed on some kind of meme batton to me, and i'm honoured to partake. primarly because i get to talk about music, which is one of my true passions in life. i live by two mottos in my life;
no music, no life
no tofu, no life

so here are my answers to the baton questions. i don't have anyone to pass the baton onto, so perhaps you'd like to share your answers with me in the comments section.

Total volume of music files on my computer:
i did make 25GB a few months ago, but then my baby died and i had to reformat the entire machine. so i lost quite a bit of my precious music in the process.
at this stage, i'm down to 21.37GB. which my itunes tells me is 5,684 songs and over 15 days of listening time. ha ha. so funny. that's not including my md collection. what a useless invention that was, the minidisc!
friends ask me what an ordinary young lass could possibly want with so much music, but for so long i survived student poverty on mixed cassette tapes made by dedicated friends. when i first started earning a paycheck, the first and only thing i bought were cd's after cd's. i just sucked it all up. and it was a kind of revenge to the hard times of getting by on worn and weary strands of cassette thread.

Song playing right now:
The Magnetic Fields' 'I don't want to get over you'. Trying them out for size. They crack me up. I love their 69 love songs. Although I'm not a diehard fan, just a polite bystander with a friendly and appreciative smile.

The last CD I bought:
The purse strings have been a little tight of late, but the new albums of the following artists are what's on my shopping list when the purse loosens up a little;
'The Black Eyed Peas', 'Gorillaz', 'Jamiroquai', 'Jason Mraz', 'The Cat Empire'.

Five songs or tunes I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:
too hard to say just 5. so i've selfishly doubled the score and let myself count a couple of songs for one artist as one.
these songs are ones that make me feel peaceful and bring me back to me, whatever the time, place or my mood. i have adrian, xtian, gavin and katsu to thank for their huge (musical) influence in my life

The Indigo Girls - Closer to Fine/Galileo
Frente - Labour of Love/Bizarre Love Triangle
Barenaked Ladies - When I Fall
Bjork - It's oh so quiet/Big time Sensuality
Jack Johnson - No Other Way
Lisa Loeb - Stay
UA - Mizuiro/Ooki na ki ni amaete/Jounetsu/Milk Tea
Ben Harper - Beloved
The Brand New Heavies - You've got a friend
The Dave Matthews Band - Say Goodbye

oh gosh...you invited this...can i really put comments this long on your blog?
well, i can only try & see....
bear in mind it's late - and this is my music choice at nearly 4 in the morning....but i guess if i'm liking it now, then i really *do* like it...

here goes...

TOTAL VOLUME OF MUSIC ON MY COMPUTER:
9.5GB
7 days worth of music...wow. doesn't seem a lot for a good few years worth of music....

SONG PLAYING RIGHT NOW
god moving over the face of the waters - moby

at this time of the day, when the sun is starting to rise, this song really ushers in the new day...

THE LAST CD I BOUGHT
actually, i bought 2 at the same time:

X&Y - coldplay
have to admit i haven't listened to it the whole way through yet...

turn on the bright lights - interpol
my friend made me an md a few months ago, and i needed to get the cd so i could ipod it...wonderful wonderful album...

FIVE SONGS I LOVE...
now this is a toughy...i think i am going to copy you and do multiple songs by the same artist...

1. dalliance / dare / suck - wedding present
these are songs that i keep coming back to. can't describe them as beautiful songs, but i can't escape them either...

2. one perfect sunrise / halcyon - orbital
two songs that make me smile

3. gold sounds / zurich is stained - pavement
love love LOVE these songs

4. bluebell knoll - cocteau twins
this song can still make me cry

5. if you wear that velvet dress - u2
don't why, but i find this song so so sexy...and i'm not even a huge u2 fan

it's so difficult to choose only 5 songs...there are so many more that i would love to choose...but then i would fill up pages and pages and pages...

over & out...the crows are coming out, and moby's nearly gone to bed....

miss. h. fabulous. thank you for your comments. and what are you doing up at 4 in the morning? and how depressing it is that the sun starts to rise at that time ne?
i have to plead ignorance and tell you that i didn't know many of the bands you spoke of. so perhaps i should broaden my tastes. the cocteau twins however, kill me as well. amazing band.

my ipod skin - pretty swish hey? it actually cost far more than it should have, but it looked too sexy to pass up. and i'm a cliche'd sucker for anything hokosai. if you get to the apple store or any decent sized electrical store and chase down the ipod section, you'll find a nice selection of 'skins' for your baby. they only make them for the ipods though, not the mini's or the shuffles.

now, must get back to the waifs. they're calling my name and reminding me to pick up the guitar once in a while!
